What's Being Done in The Fight Against Child Pornography?

What is child pornography, and what are its negative effects to society? Child pornography is generally defined as pornography which depicts sexually-explicit activities that involve a child, and it may use a wide variety of media (including magazines, photos, videos, cartoons, paintings, sound recordings, film, video and video games.  In the production of child pornography, the abuse of the child usually occurs during the sexual acts recorded. Here's a look at what's being done currently in the fight against child pornography.

What Are the Legal Definitions of Child Pornography?

According to law experts, the legal definitions of child pornography include the sexual images that involve pre and post-pubescent minors, and the computer-generated images that appear to involve them. The people who possess child pornography items who are apprehended have often been found to possess images of pre-pubescent children, and are less likely to be prosecuted, even though the confiscated items fall into the current legal statutes.

How the Fight Against Child Pornography Is Faring On Social Networks

Even social networks like Facebook, Twitter and others have not been spared the evils of child pornography. Recently, Facebook has sparked a serious outcry after a graphic child-abuse video wants viral, and shared over 16,000 times. The thousands of users who logged on to their accounts were terrified over the footage which appeared on their personal news feeds, and then turned to Twitter to vent their ire.  Users described the clip as that of a teenage girl who was abused by a grown man, and many vented their frustrations over Facebook's inability to double-check the quality of the posts.  Facebook's spokesperson announced that the material "has no place in Facebook, and nothing is more relevant to Facebook than the safety of the people using their site".
